Forrest in action!

Finally got to see my nephew, Forrest play hockey. His team, the Cobourg Cougars had a tournament in Waterloo area, so we ( me and my personal photographer, Ian) trekked up to Elmira for a game.

It was cool to see him play – I was so proud !!- not only did he handle the puck so well, but he stayed out of the penalty box where half his team spent the evening.

I had the great pleasure of going with mom to Nic’s high school graduation in Oct.

Kayaking on the Grand River

Ever since I tried kayaking a couple years ago, I loved it and wanted to go as much as possible. When Mitch’s sister, Colette, again, organized a day of canoeing on the Grand River (this time from Paris down to Brant) I jumped at the chance, even though we were skeptical about the weather in late September.

I insisted on a kayak for me, as I find it much easier (and I don’t ruin someone else’s day if they get stuck with me in a canoe)

We really lucked out on the weather, as one of the best weekends in September brought gave us a hot, sunny day.

So 8 of us (Joanne, Michel, Nicholas, Michel’s brother Andre, sister Colette, hubby Gil and son, Patrick and of course, moi) (I believe Alex was recovering from U. of Guelph’s homecoming weekend) met in Paris where Grand River Rafting had canoes and 2 kayaks waiting for us.

Do we look scared? No way – the Grand is shallow!

Here’s the African Queen in her yellow submarine, deftly maneuvering the dangerous rapids with such grace…

Is that Nick ( & Patrick) trying to sink his parents?

..and how else would you end a beautiful day outside…with a BBQ of Keg steaks and Nick’s magic touch on Billy Miner pie!

Ever since watching “March of the Penguins” I love penguins and find them so fascinating. Sooo, when I saw a that the Toronto Zoo had African penguins..we had to go.

These 2 wanted to form a congo line..

I think these guys need a few hundred gallons of body lotion!!

This baby gorilla looks so relaxed (unfortunately, I had to take the pic through glass, so it’s not as clear as I would have liked)

The flamingos always look beautiful! And the cute baby kangaroos too!

Cottage weekend – 25 years!

For 25 years our gang has been fortunate to spend a summer weekend at Harder’s cottage in Parry Sound. Always beautiful up there !

One of my favourite views driving up north…at Honey Harbour

…and the last couple years, I stop in Barrie to see my dear friend, Monica. She and Dwight have their own backyard paradise…,

Also there for dinner, her friend Carissa & husband and her parents, Les & Norma Neufeld from B.C. (he once taught at Eden & knows a lot of Niagarians)

Watkins Glen, NY

Ian and I made a quick trip down to Watkins Glen in the beautiful Finger Lakes region of New York State. It’s only a 3 hr easy drive and once you get on the 14 driving along Lake Geneva, it’s so beautiful. Lots and lots of vineyards along the lake.

Years ago, I camped there with friends and loved hiking the Glen, so I thought I’d show Ian.

It’s amazing to see how over the years, the water forms these pools in the rock..

Rain moved in early Sunday evening, but after 40 min, it cleared up beautifully.

Forrest graduated from Grade 8 in June and I’m soooo proud of him!!

On Oct. 29, 2010, several members of the Epp and Jones family gathered in Waterloo to celebrate with Cindy as she was awarded her Phd in Geography at the Wilfred Laurier convocation.

After interviewing many of us, our relatives and other Mennonites in the Niagara Region, Cindy was able to complete her thesis on the Mennonite settlement in Niagara. (dedicated to mom & dad)(see a copy in our church)

We’re so proud of you Cindy! Way to go!!

Although we knew in spring that Alex successfully made it through high school, it was still special to see him get his diploma. I actually got choked up when they piped in the graduates – I was so proud of him! (I had a lot to do with it, of course)

Way to go Alex! Remember what your principle said, “to laugh a lot and learn to laugh at yourself!”
